The KLX 650 is a 651 cc single with a liquid-cooled, four-valve DOHC engine and a kick start, aimed at city and country-lane riding. A 1993 Bike magazine road test praised its low-end torque, nimble handling and suspension on rough roads. It criticised the seat, a stiff gearbox and weak top-end power, and judged it a focused city bike rather than a true dual-sport.
